Vuyani Dance Theatre has over the last sixteen years offered free dance training programme to deserving youth, constructed under the scope of dance skills, technique and choreography. The programme aims to give deserving young people from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to excel in dance while developing a new generation of dancers, dance teachers and choreographers. The training model absorbs the trainees into the organisation’s daily dance programme; this on the job training approach ensured that the trainees gain a practical understanding of different dance techniques while performing with company in professional productions which includes abroad travels that opens them up to new networking opportunities.

Vuyani is rooted in developing young talent and trainees also give of their time to impart the knowledge they soak up to the school going generation through the Outreach Programme. The objective of this programme is to reach out to community organisations and primary schools with a keen focus on those that include an arts and culture programme in their curriculum.

The outreach programme reaches out to primary schools and community groups in the townships especially those who have the arts and culture programme in the curriculum. The company dancers and trainees are sent to facilitate dance classes twice a week where the end result is the staging of works that have been created for staging at a professional theatre. The outreach programme also helps the VDT artistic team to discover and nurture talent at a tender age.

Over and above the work the company does, we also offer a wellness element to the community at large. Giving members an opportunity to transition into dance or simply for a great work-out. These Saturday classes cover different genres of dance such as Hip Hop, Contemporary, Latin, Modern Funk, Afro Rhythm and Yoga.
