Lungile Mahlangu

Pretoria Bred and born, I began my dancing journey at the age of 15 at DC Marivate Junior School from 2008 where I took part in the Coca-Cola Dome Competitions until 2010. Thoroughly drawn to the art form I continued to embark on my technical training at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

In 2015 I diligently completed my Diploma, majoring in Dance Teaching while training in various dance forms which contributed to my versatility. These genres encompassed Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Classical Ballet, and African Dance. During my time at TUT I accumulated several accolades including best student in all dance forms and best student in composition in 2016. In that same year I was the sole female, casted to work with renowned New York choreographer Mersiha Mersihovic amidst five other male cast members.

While training I enhanced my already beaming versatility with extra training in Latin American alongside successfully competing in several competitions. In 2018 I furthered my training with prolific internationally-acclaimed Vuyani Dance Theatre. The first project I worked on was the rejuvenation of Gregory Vuyani Maqoma's Mayhem which was performed as a Double Bill with Vincent Mantsoe’s Gula Matari. Later that year I was casted in award-winning Cion: Requiem of Ravels Bolero and soon began touring nationally and internationally with VDT. In 2019 I was hand-picked to be part of Via Kanana, a collaborative offering between Gregory Maqoma and Via Katlehong. I continued to tour numerous countries of the global North. I am currently a Junior Dancer at VDT and am part of the VDT Academy pilot programme as one of the teachers. I teach Anatomy and Dance Psychology with zeal, tenacity and leadership.
