Noko Moeketsi

Dancer

I began taking dance classes at High School and later became part of Ithuba Dance under Tanz de Toleranz with the supervision of Christopher Benstead and Tamara Mclorg. This company exposed us to international and local performing theatre artists to groom the dancers. I stayed with group until I graduated from high school. In the year 2017, I auditioned and was accepted to study at Moving into Dance Mophatong for one year. It was during my time there where I created my first solo, Paperclip.  Upon completion of the furst year I was selected as a 2nd year trainee in the company. I performed at National School of Arts in Dance Spectrum. I then took part in workshops with MID’s Alumni as part of the training program in addition MID's Enable project under the supervision of Lesigo Dihemo. I worked with children living with disabilities in 2018 this helped me immensely in terms of understand the body. I would later perform in We are still Marching which had its season which premiered at University of Johannesburg, which was conceptualized by award-winning Sunnyboy Mandla Motau.

In 2019, I joined the Majestic Vuyani Dance Theatre as an apprentice and swiftly made my way to the Junior Dancer in the company. I created another solo Race against time which was part on the annual Vuyani Week. As part of the twentieth anniversary celebration at VDT I performed in Gregory Maqoma’s Cion: Requiem of Ravel’s Bolero alongside Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir. The year 2019 was a year of many first for me and one of which was travelling abroad. My first international performance was in Gregory Maqoma’s RISE in New York as part of Fall For Dance. Since then I have continued to tour with the company to various US cities and Dubai in United Arab Emirates.
