The objective of this programme is to reach out to community organisations and primary schools with a keen focus on those that include an arts and culture programme in their curriculum.
At the beginning of the year full time dancers employed by VDT are assigned an outreach station to facilitate dance classes once a week over the duration of 43 weeks working towards staging and showcasing the work to an audience at a professional theatre.
Outreach sessions are run according to the VDT artistic working themes set for the respective year. Naturally each outreach station will end up with a product that is driven by each facilitator’s artistic interpretation of the set theme. All of these individual interpretations are fused in a mass performance that is staged during VDT’s annual Vuyani Week. This mini festival is used as a platform to showcase the work done throughout the year at each station as well as to explore the artistic growth from VDT’s emerging artists.
